Otter Five
The Otter Five class is for children who have mastered the freestyle stroke with bilateral breathing whilst using a kickboard. This level sees the continued development of freestyle, progressing to mastering the stroke unaided. Endurance is developed with increased distance of kicking and backstroke. Water safety elements include problem solving and implementing survival techniques over distance, treading water and sculling, as well as extended floating.
Otter Five are:
- Confident in the water
- Learning the freestyle and backstroke strokes
- Increasing endurance
- Skill based progression
- Group class with a maximum of 4 students
What do our Otter Five students learn?
- Bilateral freestyle without a kickboard
- Backstroke endurance
- Kicking endurance
- Treading water
- Extended floating
- Sculling
When I graduate from Otter Four:
- I have a strong kick on my front and back which I can maintain for 15m
- I can perform a rocket with correct kick and head position for 15m
- I can swim backstroke independently for 30m
- I can swim correct freestyle with bilateral breathing for 10m
- I can perform a survival sequence of sculling, treading water, and floating for 2 minutes
